Frustration over the lack of action by Perth and Kinross Council over speeding at Forfar Road in Coupar Angus has led to calls for public support for a demonstration this Friday, 2nd June. Sara Edwards, whose 2-year-old daughter Harlow was killed by a speeding car last October, published the following article on the Coupar Angus Facebook Group:
"since it seems the planned work on the Forfar road has been forgotten about and the traffic continues to speed, putting us all at risk, we are planning on having a peaceful protest to encourage the drivers on the Forfar road to slow down. We are going to be on the grass at the end of Larghan View (opposite the park) at 3.30 on Friday with banners and we are inviting u all to join us (please bring slow down banners!). The better weather is coming in, the park is getting busier and the speeding cars are as dangerous as ever - lets remind them the importance of keeping to the speed limit!"
The death of Harlow Edwards shocked townsfolk and drew attention to the fact that locals have been expressing concern over speeding on Forfar Road for many years. The local Community Council had relayed these concerns to Perth and Kinross Council, which had taken no action. After Harlow's death, the local authority's Roads Department drafted plans for various road safety improvements, including new 4-way traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing. However, so far the only action taken has been the installation of countdown signs on the approach to the town.
