Perth and Kinross Council's Eastern Perthshire Action Partnership hosted a funding event today at Coupar Angus Town Hall. Members of the public were invited to choose 3 of the 18 projects on display. The 10 projects that received the most votes received a share of £20,000.
The Snowdrop Cafe provided hot drinks, home made cakes and soup to participants and visiting members of the public.
The winners were:
A) Alyth Family Learning Group, for Alyth Community Café:
Project cost £750
Alyth Family Learning Group plans to start up a community café offering soup, sandwiches and refreshments. The Café will supply information for local groups about training and learning opportunities and invite speakers to give talks to café members.
B) Alyth Youth Partnership (AYP) SCIO, for a New Minibus for the Community of Alyth:
Project cost £3000
Alyth Youth Partnership is looking for support replacing their ageing minibus to continue to give our young people access to activities locally and nationally. The minibus is used by a wide range of groups in local communities.
C) Burrelton + Woodside Hall Committee, towards Burrelton & Woodside Community Concert:
Project cost £3000
Burrelton + Woodside Hall Committee is teaming up with the local tennis club, football club and the village hall to organise a summer funday & concert event. The event will focus on the activities of these three active local groups.
D) Cargill/Burrelton Church, for a Community Café:
Project cost £842.53
Cargill/Burrelton Church recently started a Community Café in the local church hall. We open on Tuesdays and provide a warm, safe environment with free refreshments and home baking for locals wanting somewhere for a chat, or a bit of support.
E) Coupar Angus Cycling Hub, towards Coupar Angus Cycling Festival 2018:
Project cost £2299
Coupar Angus Cycling Hub Engage and inspire people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds in the area to get involved in their community, get active and get outdoors. We want to create a legacy for a happy and healthy community for all.
L) Humpty Dumpty Community Nursery, for Nursery Equipment Funding:
Project cost £1280
Humpty Dumpty has been providing affordable childcare in Scone and the surrounding areas for over 40 years. We are a registered charity and rely on fundraising and support from local businesses and organisations. We are run by a fully trained nursery staff and a parent led committee.
M) Robert Douglas Memorial Institute (RDMI) Management Committee, towards ongoing costs:
Project cost £3000
Robert Douglas Memorial Institute Robert Douglas Memorial Institute (RDMI) Management Committee seeks grant funding of up to £3,000 to assist it in meeting the cost of operating and maintaining Robert Douglas Memorial Institute on behalf of the community of Scone.
N) Scone Carpet Bowling Club, to Replace Carpets and Increase Membership:
Project cost £1600
Scone Carpet Bowling Club would like to buy three new Bowling Carpets which would allow it to increase its membership considerably and allow other people to enjoy the exercise and social opportunities while playing carpet bowls in a welcoming setting.
O) Strathmore Centre for Youth Development, for the Strathmore Community Inclusion Initiative:
Project cost £2850
Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) will work together with local community groups and the Health and Social Care Partnership in a 12-month programme of events tackling social isolation and loneliness by providing a weekly café, lunch clubs and other larger events.
Q) The Huddle:
Project cost £1790
The Huddle offers the opportunity to bring people of all ages living in our scattered community, together on a regular basis. We run an affordable community café – offering a nutritious lunch and a space to meet old friends and make new ones. The project will benefit those living in and around the villages of Kinrossie, Saucher and Collace.
Who lost out?
Of course if you have winners you also have losers. Eight other projects sadly didn't get any funding, although the event organisers said they could give them advice on alternative sources of funding. Those that lost out were the following:
F) Monthly Outings for Older People:
Project cost £1,200
Coupar Angus Seniors’ Outings organise monthly afternoon outings for older people. Since 2008 our trips out have included destinations to the likes of Cupar, Dundee, Pitlochry, Perth, Arbroath, Monifieth, Broughty Ferry, Kirriemuir, St Andrews and others.
G) Snowdrop Festival:
Project cost £400
For the last 4 years Coupar Angus Town Team has run a very successful Snowdrop Festival with over 800 participants in 2017. The Festival is largely self-financing but each year we have to produce a programme and we are applying for £400 towards our 2019 Programme.
H) Restart Campaign:
Project cost: £1,762
Coupar Angus/Bendochy Comm Council wishes to promote awareness of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); train and demonstrate the use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to local people and provide and maintain publicly available defibrillators at strategic points within Coupar Angus.
I) Easter Fun Day, Fab5 Events:
Project cost: £620
The aim is to boost activities in the community tackling social isolation and deliver a variety of activities and events for all ages. These events will be free for all and available locally.
J) CANdo Magazine, Forward Coupar Angus:
Project cost £600
CANdo, is the free Coupar Angus Community magazine. We are applying for funding to ensure CANdo’s contributions and distribution widely across the Community, with material appealing to locals of all ages in the communities of Coupar Angus.
K) Green Fingers Growing Group:
Project cost £1336
Forward Coupar Angus would like to offer 26 after school sessions - April to September with Halloween Party in the Community Gardens for children and adults. Participants will plan the session content with the emphasis on making friends, and learning more about sowing, growing, cooking, eating (outdoors)
P) Stress Free Families:
Project cost £2143.20
The damaging effects of stress are being seen in even very young children. We bring the latest research-supported approach for managing feelings and behaviour into local schools. All will benefit from discovering more about our ability to maintain emotional well-being.
R) Cub Hub—Toddler and Carers Group, Coupar Angus Youth Activities Group:
Project cost £1775
Cub Hub provides welcoming, weekly Toddler and Carer sessions. Our trained group leader delivers activities to stimulate the youngsters manual, verbal and socialisation skills before they go to nursery. Carers can get out of the house and meet new people.
