Public meeting to discuss town hall, Thursday 2nd March

On Thursday 2nd March at 7.30 there will be a public meeting at the Strathmore Community Hub to discuss the future of Coupar Angus Town Hall. All welcome, tea/coffee provided.

My great great great uncle, Sir Robert Gillespie Reid, helped fund, and perhaps even build, the town hall. I am engaged in extensive research on his early life, and wondered if the town hall was saved, and who I might talk to who knows the history of Coupar Angus in Victorian Times, as well as if any descendants still live there. You have my email, and my phone is 518 605 3668....

We are in the tentive stages of planning an international symposium in St. John's, Newfoundland, and would love to have you involved in its creation? Is there anyone there, even in town publicity, who I might speak to who would be interested in knowing more? Thanks so much! Catherine Light (my great great great aunt is buried in the church graveyard: Catherine Gillespie Reid. If there is any further info in David Reid, from Leys of Halliburton, with whom he apprenticed as a mason, it would be great. I know that Robert himself was involved in the construction of several buildings in Coupar Angus, and lived, like so many, on Causeway end? Is his home still standing?
