Do you live in an around Coupar Angus or the surrounding area? Are you interested in growing your own food but don't know where to start? You might not have access to a garden but would like to grow a little to feed you and your family? A big garden but not a lot of time on your hands?

Maybe you already grow your own and would like to meet up to share your skills and learn some more? Is your garden feeling a bit neglected and you would like a bit of help to get it back into production?

Come along to our second informal gathering at  Coupar Angus Cycling Hub and hear how we can help each other to grow more food in the town.

Forward Coupar Angus is offering opportunities for local young people to do a Bronze Youth Achievement Award through volunteering at the Cycle Hub, Community Garden and High Street Store. This award is equivalent to a SCQF National 4. For more information please email

CARBON LITERACY TRAINING BEGINS ON 29TH AUGUST 2018

A new Carbon Literacy training course will begin on Wednesday 29th August 2018 for 6 weeks, every Wednesday 7.30pm to 9pm at the Cycle Hub, Forfar Road (formerly Strathmore Bowling Club) from 29th August. Tea, coffee, biscuits supplied. 

It covers all you need to know about climate change and it is suitable for anyone with an interest in this subject, regardless of level of existing knowledge. 

Over 6 weeks we will have fun, informal and social meetings, using a combination of slides, short films, workshops and group discussion, we will discover the causes, effects and solutions of climate change, globally, in Scotland and locally. You will discover ways you can reduce your carbon emissions and what the benefits can be for your pocket and health as well.

The only cost is the cost of a certificate associated admin/postage, if you want one, to say that you have completed the course and are Carbon Literate (as per the Carbon Literacy Project in Manchester) This is £10.

As part of the Coupar Angus Burn Project, on Monday 6th November at 7pm, Clive Bowman will be running a Wood Heating Course (Agenda below) at Joe Richards work shop in George St. If you are interested in attending please email a.easson@btinternet.com or text 07960538728. Numbers are limited.
Heating your home with wood Course:-
This short course will cover the basics of using wood to heat your home. Types of stove and boiler, flues and installation, wood fuel types, wood moister levels and species, how to lay and light a fire and stove and chimney maintenance.
Course content and structure:-

sourcing & supply
• how wood burns
• wood processing - using a saw and axe
chainsaws
splitters
sourcing or making kindling
• storage & seasoning- stacking
log stores
inside the house
• stoves and boilers
• chimney, flue and stove maintenance
• ash - compost heap/fruiting plants
• laying and lighting a fire preheat flue
firelighters/paper and dry kindling over dry logs
evaporating moister fast
using charcoals to release slow heat
