5th July 2017 Last month I mentioned that the Perth & Kinross Local Policing Plan 2017-20 had been presented to and accepted by the Housing & Communities Committee. A full copy of this plan can now be viewed on the Police Scotland website by copying and pasting the following URL – http://www.scotland.police.uk/assets/pdf/392813/392817/perth-and-kinross-local-police-plan-2017-20?view=Standard. Following on from my comments over the last two weeks highlighting the ongoing issues with cyber scams, I have been made aware that a Perth resident was scammed out of money by a caller claiming to be from BT. The caller managed to persuade the Perth resident that he was going to resolve fraudulent use of her internet connection but he managed to gain control of her computer and after obtaining bank details carried out fraudulent transactions. Andy Wightman, Green MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife (which includes Coupar Angus), will be giving a talk on land reform at Blairgowrie Town Hall on Sunday 16th July at 2pm. Afterwards, Andy will take questions from the audience on land reform, Scottish independence and other topics. THE EVENT IS FREE, BUT BOOKING IS REQUIRED - http://www.andywightman.eventbrite.co.uk Four new lamp posts have been installed on Forfar Road, from the junction of Larghan View eastwards as far as the 30mph signs. The new lamp posts mean that the 30mph speed limit on this stretch of road will now be enforceable for the first time since the construction of Larghan View and Denhead Brae in 2008. The 30mph signs were moved 200m eastwards at that time, but no new lamp posts were installed. According to section 82 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, 30mph speed limits are only enforceable in areas with street lighting less than 185m apart. The installation of the new lamp posts marks the second stage in a program of road safety improvement works being carried out by Perth and Kinross Council in response to the death of 2-year-old Harlow Edwards last October, after a car mounted the pavement on Forfar Road. In April the Council moved the 30mph signs approximately 50 yards further east and installed a series of ‘count down’ signs to warn motorists that they were about to enter a 30mph area. Additional measures are to follow, including a signalised junction with Larghan View, making it safe for pedestrians to cross Forfar Road to the bus stop and Larghan Park. A recent letter from Perth and Kinross Council to Local residents says that road works will begin on the Forfar Road/Larghan view junction on 14th of Aug, taking 4 to 5 weeks. It will include a 3 way signalised junction, additional footway links within Larghan Park and the relocation of the bus stops - see drawing. However, the letter goes on to say that no date has been set either for proposed speed limit changes, or for installation of the 4-way signalised junction planned for the junction between Forfar Road, Princeland Road and Coupar Angus Road (known locally as the Meadows Road). The council will write again to inform residents when a date comes available. A further concern is the narrow section of pavement which extends eastwards along Forfar Road from the junction with Princeland Road (see image below). Perth and Kinross Council intends to widen this by removing a hedge and short section of wall. Negotiations with the landowners are ongoing. |
